Right now, Josh is reconfiguring his office corner to accommodate a new (extra) desk and computer (which will hopefully make editing so much easier for him). Since our house is basically just one big room, any rearranging at all feels like the whole house is a mess for a day or two (until we can figure out how to make everything work). Normally, I'm a rather messy person, but when it comes to vacations I don't mess around. I really want to get this house as clean and organized as I can before we leave on Saturday. There's nothing worse than coming home from vacation to a list of chores to be done on top of all the unpacking! Thankfully, I was able to get a lot done over the weekend, so we only need to deal with the mess created by the rearranging.. and I don't feel overwhelmed. Not yet, at least! I can't promise it won't happen, haha.
I also feel really good about the food situation for our trip. I've mentioned that I was nervous about that because traveling with Crohn's disease is already difficult enough -- I want to be as prepared as I can be. Of course I can't make or buy anything yet or it'll start going bad before we even leave. That's the beauty of 100% real foods :)
Well, I'm rambling. I suppose I should get to the Progress Report.
Revamp Budget
Uggghgegeuhggg. When it comes down to it, I just don't want to. Trying to figure out where to squeeze that extra money for taxes is stressful. Sometime this week I need to take a break from road trip prep and just DO IT. Side note: this picture of me looking unimpressed in an old-school Robin costume really has nothing to do with budgeting (or anything, really), but I can imagine that Robin would be rather disappointed in me for ignoring this important issue for so long.. Also, it makes me laugh. So here it stays.
Eat Clean
With the exception of a couple carb-heavy meals at good friends' birthday parties (I didn't eat any desserts, though! PROUD OF ME?), I've done a pretty good job of this so far! Over the weekend I visited our new health club and had some noninvasive tests run. I was very encouraged by the good report! Seems I'm doing a good job with my diet, and my new pal Pat was able to recommend some supplements to combat the (comparatively) few deficiencies I do have. (I say comparatively because it's waaaaaaay better than the last time I was evaluated - which is so encouraging!)
Healthy TravelObviously, I can't do much until the last few days before we leave, but I do have a list of simple and healthy snacks for the road and another list of vegan restaurants and natural groceries around our hotels. So needless to say, I feel pretty confident about the food situation. Now it's just a matter of executing the plan ;)
Get Back Into a Blogging Rhythm
I don't know why I've been so uninspired lately, but every time I sit down to write a blog post, I'm at a loss! I guess I'm still figuring out what I want this blog to be like.
That reminds me - there have been a lot of questions about where the June and July Year of Dates recaps are.. I'm so behind! We didn't even get to go on June's date until July, and then July was so busy that I could barely breathe, let alone blog. We had a lot of fun on both dates, and I will try to get at least one of those up before vacation starts (but I'm not making any promises).
How are your August Resolutions going? Is anyone else preparing for a big trip? Tell me I'm not the only normally messy person who gets super particular about cleaning right before vacation!

I was wondering if you guys were super stressed with the 2-vids-per-week schedule. When do the Friday vids cut off?
ReplyDeleteYou live in a house? I totally thought you lived in a large studio apt or something. That's very cool!
I think the more I bombard myself with your monthly goal posts, the more I'll be pushed to slowly ease into my own. I have a super busy Sept. ahead and what with my health issues not quite figured out yet and an increased workload, I'm starting to be concerned for my sanity. But seeing how you handle the whole goal thing is encouraging.
Have a great week and a wonderful trip! Look forward to your date recaps when they're ready. :)
This Friday is the last Friday video. It's a good one, too! :)
DeleteWell, it's a townhouse. The downstairs is somewhat like a studio apartment - all one room - and the upstairs is our room and an extra room we use for storage.
Go for it! Monthly goals are so helpful to me. :)
Hi Kelli :) You're so not alone. I like to clean up before going on a holiday too :D I hope you and Josh have the loveliest of time!
ReplyDeleteIt's just so much nicer to come home to a clean home! Thank you :)
DeleteI'm glad your resolutions are going well - I completely bombed mine already, but that's okay. We're moving, so I just can't get to them. I think my problem is that I'm setting daily accomplishment goals that it's hard for me to find motivation for... I'll have to play around a little and try to find the best types of goals for me.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there's a bit of a learning period - I feel like I'm still figuring out the kinds of goals that work best for me. The trick is to adapt instead of getting discouraged! :)
DeleteYESSSS!!! Love before vacation/holidays cleaning. I also <3 heart <3 black hefty bags. Enjoy your vacation. Make many babies. Then you too can use hefty bags to clean up. It's basically a win/win.
ReplyDeleteHahaha. You made me laugh. Pre-holiday cleaning is just the best.
Deletegreat job planning, Kelli! Have fun on your anniversary trip! Congrats to you and Josh!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI so love that photo of you as robin!
ReplyDeleteHa, isn't it great? That outfit is like two times too small for me.. it's hilarious.
DeleteI've only been following your blog since the beginning of this summer, so forgive me if I've missed the answer to this. Are you guys actually eating vegan, or do you just try to find vegan restaurants because they're more likely to __________? (fill in blank for me here too please!) Just curious. I know you were trying to eat better, but the vegan reference kind of threw me off what I thought I understood as your goals.
ReplyDeleteWe're not actually vegan, we just tried to find vegan restaurants for our trip because they're more likely to have natural/organic options.. and of the course the abundance of veggies. We've found that it's hard for us to get enough vegetables while traveling, so that's why I sought out vegan options for our vacation :) Plus they're fun!
DeleteThanks! I appreciate the clarification. We might have to follow in your footsteps when we travel from now on. I always feel terrible after we travel because it's so hard to eat the way we do at home (whole foods, usually organic, grassfed/local meats & raw dairy, etc). We usually take our milk with us, but the rest of the options still undermine our diets in the few days it takes us to travel from Indiana to New Mexico, which we do twice a year. Thanks for the tip!
