23 May Resolutions

I can't believe it's already May! Time to set more Resolutions. I went kinda crazy last month and overwhelmed myself with the organization projects, so I'm going to keep it simple in May. Without further ado:

Keep on Top of Dishes and Laundry
These are the basics I mentioned yesterday that have "fallen by the wayside." My poor husband did his best to help out, but he couldn't pick up the slack on his own, especially since he's been so busy with work and Blimey Cow. This is going to be my main goal this month: set aside time every day to do what needs to be done in these areas (and other chores too, obviously.. these are just the two that are easiest to get behind in) - I've got to get back into the habit of keeping a tidy house. Maybe having a cute, newly organized Laundry Room will help with that!

Take More Pictures With My DSLR
I've been relying on my iPod Touch's crappy camera a little too much lately. While apps like Instagram and Hipstamatic Disposables are fun, I miss having high-quality digital images.  And I miss stretching my creativity by slowing down and exercising complete control over the camera's settings. I'll still use the iPod for when we're out without the DSLR and for instagram sharing (#photoadayMay, anyone? @krftaylor). But I'd like to get back into the habit of actively seeking out photo opportunities instead of just letting them come to me and/or being unprepared when they do.

Complete and Submit Social Security Paperwork
I never did this last month... and I really need to change my name with the silly Department of Social Security. Again, I'm not sure why I've such an aversion to doing this!

Get Some Art on the Walls
Our poor walls have been barren long enough. I have several items that've been waiting to be hung for months. I'd also like to make 2 or 3 pieces of wall art to hang - I've got a few ideas rolling around in my head! I'll let you guys know what I come up with, for sure.

Implement a 10:30pm Internet Curfew
I need to get to sleep earlier and wake up earlier, and that's difficult when I'm just bumming around on the computer at the end of the night. I'll start a project in the evening and just keep working on it til the wee hours of the morning if left unchecked. Isn't that pathetic? I feel like a slave to this silly machine, when really it should be the other way around. Even as I'm typing this, I'm not sure how well I will be able to hold it up. But maybe this next resolution will help me cope with an earlier curfew:

Read at Least Three Books
I'm currently stuck in the beginning of two books right now, and I'd really like to finish both of them (one is freaking huge. Seriously. It's 792 pages, and it's non-fiction, so...). Perhaps I'll read more than three, but I don't want to overwhelm myself. Women's Wisdom, Catching Fire (I'm re-reading it out loud to Josh), and Blink are the three I have my eye on.

What are your May Resolutions?

  1. I've always had daily goals and even yearly goals, but never monthly. You inspire me to give it a try. I have been keeping up pretty well on my yearly goals and if things aren't checked off daily I will remove them to the next day. It would be good to have a deadline though. Now to spend my free time at lunch planning. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Sure thing! I'm also a daily list-maker who moves unchecked items to the next day. I've found that is does help to set a deadline for myself, which is why I'm enjoying this monthly resolutions thing so much :) I'd recommend it!

  2. Goal number one: Finish two CLEPs this month...and pass! I hate studying...I think that will keep me occupied for a long time. I'm not sure if I'll have room for other goals.

    1. Indeed, I can imagine that wouldn't leave much time for anything else. Good luck on your tests!

    1. Ha! I never realize that we're wearing our rings until after we're at home watching the clips. Youtube commenters like the point that out.. it cracks me up.

    1. Ha! I wouldn't describe myself as "perky." But I'll take that as a compliment :)

  5. Hi! Wanted to thank you, because your pre-planned dates gave me an idea of a birthday gift for my best friend! I had no clue what to get her, had less than three hours to do it, and I remembered you blog posts about the preplanned dates :) I wrote a "story" and did some of the stuff you did, so thanks! (She *adored* it, by the way :)

  6. I totally get the Social Security thing. It took me nearly 2 years after I got married to change my name with the Social Security office. I just really didn't want to hassle with :) but I finally had to for new job I got.
Good luck with this month's resolutions!

  7. I need to do something like your internet curfew! My goals will keep me occupied enough to encourage that, I think:

    A. Get back into Highland dancing. (I need the exercise.)
    B. Read Anne of Green Gables.
    C. Organize stuff from an old computer.
    D. Send a birthday greeting/gift to a specific friend
    E. Make a list of when important things need to be done (car inspection, etc.)
    F. Take stuff to the Salvation Army or some such place.

Best wishes with your goals, Kelli. Keep at them!

  9. Might I say this is an excellent set of resolutions and some of them are mine as well. Keeping up with laundry/housework, actually finishing the books I start and setting an internet curfew (that last one was not something I had considered, but I think that is an excellent idea! I'm such a lazy butt in the evenings sometimes).

I get swamped with the housework I have to do, especially laundry. I'm usually doing 5 or 6 loads in the course of a few days to catch up, only to fall behind again. I've also recently renewed my love for books and I keep getting new ones from the library but not finishing them! I probably have about 9 sitting around waiting to be finished, haha!

So I take this time to applaud you and to adopt some of your resolutions as my own. If I can handle those three (and get my school financial aid worked out this month), I'll have had a prosperous May :)

Thanks for sharing! I read your blog often and mean to comment more, but I just don't. I love the way you document your life with pictures and updates. It's fun :)

    1. I appreciate the encouragement.. and I appreciate knowing that I've got a blog-friend out there attempting the same goals that I am this month. Makes me feel a little more motivated to keep up with them! :)

You should comment whenever you feel the urge! I love getting new comments.
