March is just flying by, isn't it?
I can't believe how warm it's been. We're not supposed to see 70s and 80s for at least a few more months! Winter isn't even officially over for another five days! But, as perplexing as this weather is, I'm enjoying the chance to break out my shorts and leave my sweaters to themselves. I hope this doesn't mean we'll have a crazy hot summer, though..
Our juice fast is going well. We are one-third of the way through - only 16 days to go! However, we're taking a good hard look at the reasons we're doing this. The point is to cleanse, to bring healing, and to be healthy in general. This time around we've neglected the all-important vegetable juice side of things, in favor of the yummier fruit juices and smoothies. This isn't inherently bad, but it doesn't really fit our reasons for doing this fast in the first place. So! We've decided that we're going to incorporate a small amount of solid vegetables into our daily diets. At least for one week, then we'll go from there. Can you blame us when our alternative is this:
It's not unbearable, but who would choose this over pineapple juice or a strawberry/mango/peach smoothie? Admittedly, we're mostly just ready to eat. So for our own health (mental and physical) we've got a new plan in place. A new plan that includes the addition of simple, raw salads. Yusssssss. That development, and a trip to the Nashville Farmers' Market have me excited again about what we're doing. (You can expect a post about our Farmer's Market experience within the next week!)
How is everyone else's March going? Have you ever had to switch gears in the middle of a project or plan?

Ah yes, vegetable juice. The evil shadow in an otherwise sunshiny juice fast day. I have juice fasted several times, even though I am only 16, because I have been sick for a few years. I never could enjoy vegetable juice, but spinach & apple is delicious. (Not too much spinach, of course. Haha! :) Veggies were meant to be eaten raw.
ReplyDeleteWe know some newly-weds who have a huge eBay business. He's a teacher. Their parents, good friends of ours, funded their 6-month YWAM program by selling things on eBay. They all shop at thrift stores, score deals, and make huge profits. The son specializes in sports gear and paraphernalia. Massive markups on jerseys! They have worked up to making thousands every month. Terrific way to save for a downpayment!!
What is your fav. drink combo you have tried? I need to juice more veggies. Looking forward to the next blog post. :)

Hey Kelli...my youngest daughter and I are starting juice/liquid fast tomorrow...but I do love the green juices. I always add some lemon to cut the greens and a little Sweet Leaf stevia, so my green juices taste like lemonade. :)
ReplyDeletemy favorite is 1 bunch of celery, head of romaine (or some other leafy green~beet tops are good) cucumber, ginger, lemon and stevia. You could use apple for sweetness instead of the stevia.
today my shopping list included: purple kale, rainbow swiss chard, spinach, romaine, zucchini, broccoli rabe, parsley, cilantro, orange beets with tops, sweet bell peppers, celery, carrots, ginger, lemon, fennel, gala & fuji apples, strawberries were on sale for $1 a pound. I already have mixed berries, bananas, pineapple and mango at the house....if I find any other veggies at the house I will juice those too! lol.
How many quarts of juice are you drinking a day? I think I will prepare 1 gallon each for both of us tomorrow.
we will also use smoothies from time to time...when the going gets rough.
Not sure how long we will go...we will listen to our bodies as the saying goes. I know your gut has to be feeling great...mine always feels like new when I juice.
We love carrot, apple, orange. The kids too (we don't fast, just make juice)
ReplyDeleteI have to switch gears in the middle of projects everyday! It can be super frustrating, and sometimes rewarding:)

Add lemon to your juice it makes it a lot more tasty and hides the "green" taste :)
ReplyDeleteHow long would you say it takes you to get adjusted to this fast? Do you get hungry a lot or do all the liquids help you to feel full? The weather has been really nice where I live too! Like you said, I just hope it's not unbearably hot this summer. I heard bugs might be really bad due the mild winter we've had.
ReplyDelete@Shannon: "Evil shadow," indeed! Haha.
ReplyDelete@Lauren: Carrot/apple/orange isn't too bad. I like to throw that in the blender with a mango and it's downright amazing. But I've never really been able to find a good juice combination that made leafy greens appetizing for me. Cucumber/lemon/apple is pretty good, too.
@Kathy: I have tried your green lemonades and it's true they're way better than just straight green juice! I'm not sure how many quarts per day.. we've since switched to eating raw vegetables as part of our cleanse, and I didn't pay that much attention before. It was probably 3 or 4 per day (each). We were very smoothie-heavy.. that's what worked for us.
@Brandy: Carrot/Apple/Orange is a good one. Probably one of my favorites.
@Logan: You're right, it can be rewarding to have to switch gears and still make it work!
@Beatrice: Thanks for the tip!
@Megan: It takes me about 3 or 4 days to get used to it, depending on the circumstances. If I'm doing it right (keeping juice available at all times) I feel full on just the liquids. That doesn't mean I don't want to eat though, haha. I definitely find myself craving carb-y foods and the act of chewing for the first few days, but if I can make it past that hump I'm usually good again for a week or so. :)
