Drinking my hot lemon water in my Star Wars mug today in honor of the birthday girl, Amy Skywalker. Here's to starting the day off on the right foot - with Luke and the Rebel Alliance! May the Force be with you on your birthday, Amy!
I've come to the point in this cleanse where I'm feeling worse than when I started, not better. It's a phenomenon known as a 'healing crisis' (GREAT article on the subject: Is Healthy Living Making You Sick?). As discouraged as I'm tempted to be, I keep telling myself that feeling this way means I'm on the right track! I just need to stick with it.
Have any of you experienced a "healing crisis" in the midst of a health overhaul? Any tips or encouragement? Lord knows I could use it. And of course, I'd be remiss if I didn't ask about everybody's favorite Star Wars characters! Mine's Han Solo. Who is yours?

Hi, Kelli, I find fatigue and then (oddly enough) insomnia tend to accompany my attempts at healthy choices. It seems like a lot of it is really about learning about your body. A friend of mine cut out all sugar when she was in her late teens and was in the hospital for a week. Apparently that was a little too much for her system. Another friend was totally into soy and started developing other symptoms and it turned out she was allergic to it. Maybe keeping a journal would be way to go to see what your body is doing and when and what you've been doing differently.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Star Wars character? R2D2 all the way. Droids rule. :)

Hey, Beth, that's good advice! I've already been through the journal-keeping phase and avoid the trouble foods in my regular diet already. This cleanse is well-rounded, and I haven't introduced anything new to my diet in weeks. In fact, I've been eating pretty much the same thing every day for a week (with my doctor's recommendations in mind). So that's why I say it's a healing crisis. My doc compared it to the layers of an onion. When your body begins to get the nutrients it needs to heal itself, it starts peeling away at the layers of disease in your body, and brings out the symptoms it's trying to heal as it goes. So.. it sucks, but at least I know I'm on the right track!

ReplyDeleteOh, Princess Lea, most definitely!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! I heard a friend's mom talk about that when she used to juice a lot!
ReplyDeleteSo YAY YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT!
Sorry it feels bad right now :(
YES. Thanks for the bit of confirmation, Calista. It'll be better soon. I'm already feeling so much better just a day later. :)
