My husband LOVES playing games.
Josh grew up playing pick-up games of football and tag in his family's yard with the neighborhood kids. He also played a lot of video games with his siblings. His family wasn't too big on board games, but they did play the classics like Monopoly and Scrabble from time to time. As he's gotten older, his love for games has grown to include every kind of game imaginable. Board games, strategy games, card games, ball games, yard games, arcade games... if it's a game, he's game. Ha!
Having a husband who enjoys playing every kind of game means I've had to learn how to control my competitiveness a lot. Playing all these games with him and our friends has showed me the ugly truth that I can be a brat if a game isn't going my way. It's been good for me! Games aren't worth getting so worked up about anyhow..
The following is a ton of photographic proof of Josh's love for games:
 |
| Arcade Games - I believe they were playing Tekken. This is his bachelor party! That's how much he loves arcade games. (photo c/o David Smith) |
 |
| Our newlywed game stash, circa early 2011. This has grown considerably since this photo was taken - now we have an entire bookshelf full of games! |
 |
| Pool (Don't mind the off-target cue ball. I told him to shoot it crooked for a joke) |
 |
| Ping-Pong with Jordan! |
 |
| Rack-O (one of our favorite two-player games) |
 |
| Wahoo! (Josh MADE this board! Isn't that awesome?!) |
 |
| Josh's favorite classic game: Monopoly |
 |
| Halo: Reach |
 |
| Tennis |
 |
| Settlers of Catan |
What's your favorite game? I'm thinking about letting Josh do a guest post to highlight three or four of his current favorites. Would you guys be interested in something like that?
I love games, my husband... not so much, so I try to use company as an excuse to play them. He will play if they seem interested, but when my Settlers of Catan disappeared in our last move I did become suspicious... Perhaps I pushed that one too much?
ReplyDeleteHaha! Settlers does seem to be a polarizing game. I hope you can find your set!
Deletehmmm... have you tried Uno? so much fun, and many versions!
ReplyDeleteWe like Uno! As for all the crazy renditions.. Uno Flash is actually one of the games Josh DOESN'T like! Haha
Deletehahaha the "photographic proof" is hilarious! :)

DeleteWhat a fun post! (: I always like reading your blog, Kelli.
ReplyDeleteYou guys have some great games! I really enjoy Mad Gab, but probably because I'm really good at it! I loathe Monopoly though -- it just takes soooo long! And there is a game called "boxers or briefs", which is a mix between "Imagiff" and "Apples to Apples", we enjoy that one. Our newest favorite is a game called "Likewise", have you heard of it?
"Imaginiff"; whoops.
DeleteThank you! That's very sweet.
DeleteYes! We have Imaginiff and Likewise! Josh's family has Apples to Apples.. and we have played Boxers or Briefs, but it's been years... way before Josh and I were even dating. But yes, our collection of games has more than tripled since I took that first picture... Josh seriously loves games.
That's fantastic! (: I like games too, but I think I'm pretty picky when it comes to which games I like. (:
DeleteI love playing Scattergories and Scrabble. Word games are awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes! Definitely have Josh guest post!!! :)
I really enjoy word games, too! Have you ever played Balderdash?
DeleteNo, I haven't. What's it like?
DeleteYou take turns being the reader, taking a card and rolling a die which will tell you which word on the card to read. The reader will read the word aloud (usually an obscure and strange-sounding word). Everyone else writes down what they think is a convincing definition of that word, and the reader writes the real definition provided by the card they drew. Then everyone hands their definitions to the reader, who reads them out loud and everyone votes on which definition they think is real. You get points for each person who votes for your definition, and the reader gets points for each correct guess. The people who guess the correct definition get a point for that, too. It's a lot of fun!

I didn't know Josh made a Wahoo board - way to go!!
ReplyDeleteCATAN!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel kind of like a stalker saying this... but the more I watch BlimeyCow, read Tweets, this blog etc. the more I think that if we met in real life, Josh and I would be beffies.
My husband loves games too, and like you I am a bit competitive. However, I think I still need to work on my attitude when it comes to games that aren't going my way :)
ReplyDeleteIf you love Catan there is a Catan card game that is really fun that's for 2 players. There is also a Catan dice game that is for 2-4 players that is fun as well. One of our favorite games is Carcassonne. You should check it out of you don't already have it!
Love your blog by the way, keep it up!
Yes! We actually own the 2-player Catan card game. I think it's called Rivals of Catan. We haven't played it yet, though we've tried a couple times. Something always seems to come up when we sit down to play it together, haha. But I'm glad to hear from a fellow Catan-lover that it's fun. We'll have to check out Carcassonne.. I think I've seen that at The Game Keep but I've never looked at it.
DeleteThanks for the encouragement! I'm glad you like it :)
I really like Settlers of Catan! Some friends introduced me to that one. Good memories, right there. :)
ReplyDeleteHave you tried Deal or no deal? Or are you smarter than a 5th grader or the wii or xbox or ps or dsi ds 3ds kinnect
