21 Whimsical DIY Herringbone Plate

I love painting pottery. I wish I could afford my own studio. I would just paint all day! But in the meantime, there's this great little place in Mt Juliet called Fired Up where you can paint your own pottery. Last week I went with a couple girlfriends for my birthday, and I painted this plate:

The best part? It was really easy. And I love the way it turned out. In fact, I'd like to make another one so that Josh and I could have a set for special occasions!

Have you painted or created anything lately that you just love? Tell me about it! (And if there's a picture or blog post, leave me the link!)

  2. It turned out so cute... You should make a whole set. Then when company asks you where you got them you can smile and say "I made them!" How fun would that be?

    1. That WOULD be cool! That was where the idea to make two came from, actually, but I'd have to make them over a long period of time, though, because each plate comes to about $25. So it's not cheap. I've got enough birthday money to make maybe two more. But I guess I could just be patient and make on every few months. Because yeah. That would be awesome.

    1. You should try it!

I'VE always wanted to learn how to quilt, but I never learned to sew, so quilting is waaaay intimidating. I can't believe you HAND STITCHED some of your quilts! They look awesome.

  4. You should team up with Joshua Houben... he throws/makes pottery.

    1. I want to learn how to throw pottery! I took a ceramics 101 class in college that I LOVED, but we never made it to the pottery wheel. Is he a Joshua Houben of yours? His stuff is really good!

  10. This is really sweet! I have to ask, did you paint it or use a paint pen? I work at a ceramics studio and I know that it's really hard to paint, or even paint pen, such smooth lines! Great job though. :)

    1. Thank you Carol! I used little squeeze bottle with a very skinny nose.. I think I heard someone call it a "paint pen" while we were there! (I don't know the technical terms of anything ceramics-related :P)
